FIPSE Exchange Program between The University of Cincinnati and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro

So in case you don't know, I've been selected to be a part of a 4 month exchange program sponsored by the US Department of Education's FIPSE Grant Program that serves to broaden the educational experience of Post-Graduate study by learning a foreign language and experiencing study in another country of the world.  For me, this will be in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

Needless to say, I"m very excited.  However, excited with respectful trepidation.  I know that Rio, for all the glitz and glamour of being the "Marvelous City" also has it's fair share of social, political, and economic injustice and great deals of poverty and crime.  I go into the experience with eyes fully open and a mind tuned to experiencing a rich culture unlike that of the United States.  I got my head on a swivle as it were.

I'm currently 2 weeks away and am trying to find a place to live there.  I'm looking in the South Zone or Zona Sul which is predominantly the beach neighborhoods;  Leblon, Ipanema, Copacobana, Botofogo, Flamengo, and possibly Santa Teresa or Lapa.  I'm excited and can't wait to tell my stories.

Saude!
